Friday Fun

spent my Friday here :)

this is a HUGE campus and students @ our local Polytechnics are really so lucky! they've got really nice facilities and i wonder if anyone got lost within the campus itself? ;)

firstly, Thanks to Steven and his wife for inviting Clare and me to host a workshop for the young ones. my first time teaching a class filled with 17 kids who are eager beavers and they're all truly creative and talented! i brought Aysha along to assist us :)

we introduced card making during the first session along with several techniques which will be applied to making their own mini album. everything that was taught, they picked up immediately! :D

these are cards i made for this project

"my" students ;)

for our second session, we wanted them to make a mini album called "All About Me". i made one of Anis as a guide for them but once they got the hang of it, they found their own style ;) we painted chipboards, altered chipboard alphas and did many things that was fun for everyone.

we're truly glad that during the 8 hours we were there, the kids managed to get several cards, tags and their mini album completed! *phew* we left some pages empty for them to add on when they get home. i believe i picked up some tips from the kids too! hehe...

Thanks Clare & Joe :)

All About Me
Christmas Gift Bag
i made this for my Christmas Baby ;)
he loves it so much he isn't willing to part with it.
will fill this with his Birthday Gift
i hope you're having an enjoyable Sunday with your loved ones :) Singapore is having some sunshine this morning but rain is also expected during the afternoon. it's normal for us and we're used to the weather. a little snow would be fun. sticking our heads in the freezer would make that happen...hehehe

Ron will be back from Bali tonight. hope he'll get home safe. we're hanging out @ home mostly. today is the eve of Hari Raya Haji also known as
Festival of Sacrifice is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims and Druze worldwide in commemoration of the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey God and spare his son. As Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God intervened and instead provided a lamb as the sacrifice. This is why today all over the world Muslims who have the means to, sacrifice an animal (usually a goat or a sheep), as a reminder of Ibrahim's obedience to God. The meat is then shared out with family, friends (Muslims or non-Muslims), as well as the poor members of the community. (Islam names Ishmael as the son who was to be sacrificed, whereas the Judeo-Christian name Isaac).

currently, Muslims from all over the world are performing their Hajj in Makkah. they will all gather @ Mount Arafah a granite hill east of Makkah. It is also known as the Mount of Mercy (Jabal ar-Rahmah). The hill is the place Muhammad delivered the Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life. It reaches about 70 m in height.

The level area surrounding the hill is called the Plain of Arafat. The term Mount Arafat is sometimes applied to this entire area. It is an important place in Islam because during the Hajj, pilgrims spend the afternoon there on the ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah (ذو الحجة). Failure to be present in the plain of Arafat on the required day invalidates the pilgrimage. Many pilgrims stay here all night in vigil.

just sharing a little Islamic history :) i miss being there. 2 years after we got married, Ron and i went to perform our Hajj. it was an experience i shall never forget. this is a place where you could be the wealthiest of person or the poorest of the poor, but get together and sitting side by side praying to the One and Only.

shortly after we got back from Hajj, we were expecting our first Baby, Aysha :) Thank God.

and Thank You my family and friends for coming by. i'm currently surviving on my computer's short lifespan! waiting for our computer guy to come over and help solve the problem. how's your Christmas preparation coming along? done with your shopping? i'm waiting for Post Christmas sales... ;)

have a Superb Weekend! Take care *Hugs*

How fun to be able to teach that class, and I love the cards you did.

And that mini book is AMAZING!!!!!

I've always loved the story of Abraham and Isaac. Such an amazing story of sacrifice and willingness to serve God. Thanks for sharing about that tradition!
